A Meeting between the ENA and the Carter Institute

 

On the sidelines of the participation of the Elections Network in the Arab world in monitoring of the Lebanese parliamentary elections last June, a delegation of the Elections Network in the Arab world consisting of Chancellor Mr. Anwar Rashid vice-chairman of the Network and the lawyers Mr. Hawker Jtwo and Mr. Issa Al-Gaib Members of the Network Board of Directors And Mr. Srtib Mohamed Curran from the Network General Body  met with Sara Johnson the program director of the monitoring program at the Carter Institute, in this meeting both parties have exchange a description of their activities they have carried out, and discussed the prospects of joint cooperation between the two institutions in the cases of elections in the Arab world, and the two sides agreed to a series of steps in this direction.

We need to mention here that the Elections Network in the Arab world was initiated and establishment by the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies at the beginning of 2006 through a survey on the status of organizations working in the electoral field, and a founding conference for the Network was held in November 2006 and in turn a Board of Directors of the network was elected from (15) Arab countries. The Network includes about (50) members of institution that are concerned with issues of election from Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Yemen, Sudan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.

The Elections Network in the Arab World is going to hold it first conference in December 2009.
