Meeting: Child Protection Gender-Based Violence Sub-Working Group

Written by Tshepo Tlhacoane

On Tuesday 24 February, Roaa Hanieh and Tshepo Tlhacoane, on behalf of the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), attended a meeting of the recently-formed Child Protection Gender-Based Violence Sub-Working Group at the offices of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Amman, Jordan.

The CP/GBV Sub-Working Group, which is led by UNHCR, UNFPA, and UNICEF, aims to strengthen the prevention, response, and protection mechanisms for children and survivors of gender-based violence across all ages, genders, nationalities, and abilities in Jordan.

On the agenda for this meeting were coordination updates by field officers of various members of the Inter-Sector Working Group, a discussion on the final version of the CP/GBV Sub-Working Group’s terms of reference, introducing and discussing the initial draft of the CP/GBV workplan, and a discussion on International Women’s Day, which is on the 8th of March.

ACHRS is participating in the CP/GBV Sub-Working Group because the mandate of the Sub-Working Group aligns with a number of our priorities, most notably women’s rights, youth rights, and social protection (disability rights). ACHRS reiterates our commitment to advance the rights within our priorities to all people in the Arab Region, and this includes refugees. We will continue to  engage with relevant partners and organizations to work on matters of common concern.
