Tshepo Tlhacoane represented the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) at the Economic Empowerment Working Group meeting, which was held virtually on Tuesday, 24 February, 2026.
The Economic Empowerment Working Group, which was established by the United Nations Refugee Agency’s (UNHCR) Inter Agency Task Force, brings together humanitarian and development actors to expand sustainable economic opportunities for refugees in Jordan. This includes entrepreneurship, market system development, skill enhancement, financial inclusion, and private sector engagement.
On the agenda for this meeting were a discussion about the High Commissioner, Dr. Barham Salih, and his recent visit to Jordan, a presentation by WFP Jordan on food security and employment statistics in refugee camps and host communities, a briefing by Vento di Terra, and a regional socio-economic update by Mercy Corps.
The economic empowerment of people in the Arab Region is central to a number of our priorities, including women’s rights, social protection, and youth rights. ACHRS will continue to work with relevant bodies in order to progress our organizational goals.
