Advancing Disability Rights in Death Penalty Abolition: ACHRS at WCADP 2026 Paris

It was a great honor for Mr. Obada Alwardat, Coordinator of the Justice and Rule of Law Unit at the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), to participate in the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty (30 June–2 July 2026) and the World Coalition Against the Death Penalty (WCADP) Best Practice Workshop (3–5 July 2026) in Paris.

Representing ACHRS and invited as a co-researcher with WCADP, he contributed to the Disabilities Working Group, focusing on the specific challenges faced by persons with disabilities in death-penalty contexts.

During the Congress (Maison de la Radio et de la Musique, 30 June–1 July; Hôtel de Lassay, 2 July), Mr. Alwardat joined panels and roundtables addressing critical themes such as the judiciary’s role in abolition, socio-economic inequalities, intersectional discrimination, and the protection of abolitionists.

At the WCADP Workshop (3–5 July, WCADP headquarters, Montreuil), he actively participated in sessions on finance and funding for abolition, gender-responsive campaigning, data collection on people on death row, and disability-focused programming.

ACHRS remains committed to advancing human rights, strengthening international collaboration, and contributing to global efforts toward the abolition of the death penalty.
