ACHRS Publishes Human Rights Monitor for October 2024

This Human Rights Monitor provides a comprehensive review of key human rights developments across the Arab world for the month of October. The report focuses on six priority areas, analyzing the impact of recent events through the lens of international human rights law. The right to life remains a critical concern, with violations manifested in extrajudicial killings, executions, and the weaponization of starvation, particularly in Gaza. Additionally, the report explores developments in women’s rights, highlighting legal changes and their effects on women’s lives in Turkey, with reference to international standards and conventions.

The Monitor also addresses the right to participate, offering insights into electoral processes, changes in electoral laws, and public engagement in political life. The right to social protection is another key area, examining government policies aimed at improving socioeconomic conditions, including access to healthcare and education. These six priorities reflect an ongoing commitment to advancing human rights in the Arab world, using international humanitarian law as a framework for promoting positive change and improving the quality of life in the region.
