ACHRS and DCAF Meet to Discuss Joint Efforts in Advancing Human Rights and Justice in Palestine

On November 11, 2024, representatives from the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), including our Director Nizam Assaf, our International Relations and Communications Coordinator Zain Al Jawhary, and our Executive Director Salem Qubylat, had the opportunity to meet with four team members from the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF), including Ayman Ayoub, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Division. DCAF, a Geneva-based organization, is dedicated to promoting effective, transparent, and accountable security sector governance globally.
During the discussion, we highlighted ACHRS’s six core priorities plus 1: the right to life, the right to participate, freedom of speech, women’s rights, academic freedom, social protection and our interns programme all of which are central pillars of our international program. We emphasized the critical importance of a fair and independent judiciary, without which these fundamental rights cannot be upheld or safeguarded.
DCAF shared valuable insights into their work on security and justice, with a special focus on Palestine, detailing their ongoing projects aimed at strengthening security sector governance and enhancing justice systems for Palestinians. Both parties agreed that a collaborative approach is essential to effectively address complex regional challenges. We look forward to exploring future collaboration with DCAF to strengthen our mutual efforts in promoting justice, transparency, and human rights across the region.
This meeting marked an important dialogue between our organizations as we discussed our shared commitment to advancing human rights and justice and enhancing security sector governance in the MENA region.
