On Wednesday, 3 June, members of the Protection Working Group convened for their monthly meeting both online and in-person at the offices of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Amman, Jordan.

The Protection Working Group, which is chaired by UNHCR and the National Council for Family Matters, aims to:

  1. Ensure that people are the center of all actions and that no one is left behind
  2. Advocate for the inclusion of refugees in national systems
  3. Forge stronger strategic partnerships and deepen collaboration with development actors to bridge humanitarian and developmental efforts, and
  4. Invest in local and national capacities to deliver sustainable protection solutions.

Tshepo Tlhacoane was present in this meeting which contained a presentation by PASS, a new member of the Working Group, a presentation and discussion on protection and gender mainstreaming by the Inter-Sector Gender Advisor Team, and a presentation and discussion on the draft strategy for the Protection Working Group.

As we approach World Refugee Day, it is important to remember that refugees are people who have the right to seek safety. They are a vulnerable group of people who remain worthy of protection, and whose dignity must be preserved, which is oftentimes forgotten. ACHRS will work with relevant stakeholders on issues of common concern to progress these goals.
