The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), is working on an art exhibition and is launching a call for artistic submissions to select the works we will exhibit on this occasion. The theme of the exhibition will follow our line of work and revolve around Human Rights and in particular our five priorities: the right to think, the right to speak, women’s rights, the right to participate, and the right to life.
We want to highlight the intersection of Art and Human Rights on the occasion of the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in the year 2023, a global blueprint that has inspired actions for the protection and recognition of Human rights. Art, in all its forms, is an effective mean of denouncing the ills of our societies and demanding Freedom, Dignity, and Justice.
Objectives of the exhibition:
- EDUCATE by increasing knowledge of Human Rights and their universality
- EMPOWER people to fight for their rights
- PROMOTE Human Rights Advocacy
- CELEBRATE achievements concerning Human Rights
- REFLECT on today’s global challenges and on the implementation of Human Rights
Eligible applicants:
Eligible artists are artists from the Arab region, regardless of their years of experience or country of residence. Artworks must be available in Amman to be exhibited during the event that will take place around May-June 2023.
We want to expose pieces from multiple artistic techniques, so we accept various forms of artwork, such as paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, or poems.
The artwork must be related to Human Rights, more precisely to our five priorities and the issues of Academic Freedom, Women’s Rights, Free and Fair Elections, the Freedom of the Press, and Ending the Death Penalty. It can be an illustration of achievements or a reflection on current issues. Because we are celebrating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, an emphasis on the universality and the indivisibility of Human Rights would be appreciated.
