ACHRS hosts Third Political Dialogue for Project Supported by UNDEF

The third Social Dialogue session with the members of the House of Representatives concluded on Friday 30th of August and discussed academic freedom in Jordanian universities with the aim of harmonizing the Jordanian legislation with the relevant international conventions.
The Social Dialogue sessions are among several activities targeted by the project “Promoting Political Dialogue Between Civil Society and the Jordanian Parliament” supported by the United Nations Fund for Democracy (UNFD) and facilitated by the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS).
This time, the topic of the workshop was on Academic Freedom in Jordanian Universities and debated two discussion papers; the first on general principles of academic freedom, specifically on the principles and values contained in the Amman Declaration on Academic Freedom in Arab Universities (2004), delivered by Dr. Nizam Assaf, director of Amman Center for Human Rights Studies. Second, on academic freedom in the Jordanian legislation, presented by Dr. Lubna Bayouq, professor of political science at Amman Open University.

After transparent and responsible discussions made by the interlocutors over the duration of two days of the workshop on Academic Freedom, 14 recommendations were adopted.
