ACHRS participate in the “ The EuroMed Youth Awards”

The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) participated at the event “ The EuroMed Youth Awards” that took place in Jordan –at the Movenpick Resort& Spa Dead Sea ( 10th-14th June) co-organised by the Jordanian hosting Institution, Salto Youth Euromed RC, the Euromed Youth IV Regional Capacity –Building and Support Unit and the Jordanian Euromed Youth Unit, Euromed Youth Platform, and theTurkish, Italian, Portuguese and Cypriot National Agencies for the Euroepan Youth in Action programme under the patronage of the European Commission.
The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies participated in order to present his project “Giovani e volontari” that was organized in partnership with XENA, centri scambi e dinamiche interculturali- an Italian Ngo from Padova Italy- in Jordan between 2011 and 2012. The project was an EVS European Voluntary Service (Youth in Action project): 2 Italian volunteers were sent from Xena to work at our center for a period of 5 -9 months.
The aim of the project was the preservation and awareness of human rights in Jordan and in the Arab world compared to other European countries. Many of the areas where the activities took place were subsets of the intended goals of the United Nations through the Millennium Development Goals to reduce the social diversity and promote gender equality and global partnerships in order to meet the global challenges. The main themes of the project were: protection of human rights, non-discrimination of women and vulnerable groups and academic freedom.

The project in a country such as Jordan has allowed a strong cross-cultural comparison; the volunteers were able to think about the European Union by observing it from outside and comparing some central themes between the Arab countries and the EU countries. This project is a perfect example of how easy it was to plan and implement a Youth in Action project between Italy and Jordan.
The main aim of the “EuroMed Youth Awards”in Jordan was to increase the visibility of Euromed Cooperation with key partners form the youth field, enhancing the achievements of the Euro-Mediterranean Youth cooperation by sharing good practices and giving a new impetus for future partnership and cooperation within the future generation of Youth and Euromed Youth programmes.
