– Human Rights in the Arab spring: present situation and opportunities for the future
The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), the Forum of Gulf civil society institutions, in cooperation with the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR), the Arab Committee for Human Rights (ACHR) and the Palestinian Council for Human Rights Organizations commenced to circulate the invitation letters for the participation in the conference on human rights situation in the Arab world; the conference marks the first anniversary of the Arab Spring and will be held in Cairo from the 11th to the 14th of December 2011.
The conference shall be held under the patronage of MP Ali Deqbasi, President of the Arab Parliament, and will be attend by some 150 human rights and women organizations, networks, and coalitions from 19 Arab countries; it will be open for international and regional Human Rights institutions, including UN and European Union agencies.
During the sessions, worksheets will be submitted to cover the following areas:
I: Turmoils in the Arab World: causes, characteristics, paths
II: Human rights concepts and the Arab Spring
III: Truth, justice, and community reconciliation: prosecution of the past or tolerance to build for the future
IV: The role of civil society organizations in the Arab regional order after the revolutions
V: The participation of Arab women in the revolutions and their future
VI: Rights of the Palestinian people in the frame of Arab revolutions
VII: Media and the Arab revolutions: reciprocal relationships
VIII: Ambitions and prospects
