BYSHR Report: by-elections in Bahrain (figures and statistics)

Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights (BYSHR) monitored the by-elections that took place in Bahrain on 24th September 2011. BYSHR has registered a number of events that accompanied the by-elections:
-The following political societies boycotted the by-elections (Al-Wefaq, National Democratic Action, Democratic Progressive Tribune, National Brotherhood, Islamic Action, and National Democratic Assemblage).
-There were calls for demonstrations and a number of demonstrations took place at some areas on 23rd and 24th September.
-Al-Wasat daily did not cover the by-elections citing that the Supreme Commission for Elections had procrastinated in issuing cards for its journalists. BYSHR observed that a number of the international news agencies had been prevented from entering Bahrain and covering the event, e.g. Al-Jazeera.
-The Supreme Commission for Election banned filming inside polling stations.
– BYSHR took a tour to the polling stations and observed that the polling stations and the roads to them were open, the police were present in the polling stations, and the absence of the ordinary election manifestations.
-After the results had been declared, BYSHR presented a table showing the turnout in the by-election with comparison to the 2010 Elections.
