79 Civil society organizations and networks condemn the use of force and call the Yemeni authorities to respond to the legitimacy demands of the masses of the people in Yemen

Fifth Statement 8/3/2011

We, the undersigned, strongly condemn the use of force by the Yemeni regime against the peaceful demonstrations of the people; the authorities have exercised violence and repression to confront the peaceful demonstrationists, which led to the fall of the tenths dead and hundreds wounded in dozens cities and governorates.

While we offer our condolences to the families of the martyrs in all parts of Yemen, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured, we strongly condemn these acts of repression and violence against civilians, and we demand the release of all detainees because of the protests and all political prisoners immediately, and respond without delay to the legitimacy demands of the masses of the people in Yemen.

We also call upon international community to condemn these acts as crimes and atrocities against unarmed civilians, who are eager to achieve freedom, justice and equality in their country. We call on all free and honest people of the region and the world to have a serious and courageous solidarity stand with civil society organizations in Yemen and their right to peaceful expression, demonstrating in order to ensure basic human rights, build real democracy and the rule of law and institutions, and uproot administrative and financial corruption widespread in the institutions of the Yemeni tyrant. And we call on raising the voices of condemnation of all forms of oppression in Yemen as intimidation, brutality, and bloodshed of peaceful demonstrators. We call on taking legal action against the ones responsible for shedding the blood of the martyrs and the injured of unarmed demonstrators, and all those who participated in the crimes of repression and torture. We express our deep concern that the Yemeni regime continues to commit such brutal crimes and we call for immediate cessation and respond without delay to the demands of civil society organizations.

Long live the Yemeni people and their struggle for dignity and freedom.
