
Last week, the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) was represented at the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council by Mr. Filipe Dias Kalgaard, Coordinator of the International Relations Unit and Ms. Romina M. Iramloo, from the 28th of September 2026 to the 2nd of October 2026.
In addition to attending the main high-level debates– including 1) the Annual Discussion on the integration of a gender perspective throughout the work of the Human Rights Council and that of its mechanisms, 2) Item 7: General Debate on the Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, and 3) Item 9: Interactive Dialogue with the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent.
Filipe and Romina participated in several side events, of which included:“Israel’s Death Penalty Law Targeting Palestinian Prisoners: An Apartheid Framework” organised by Human Rights and Democratic Participation Center “SHAMS” in cooperation with the Women’s Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling (WCLAC) and Al-Haq, the Side Event on Settlement expansion, displacement and the duties of third states in the occupied Palestinian territory, organised by the Palestinian Return Centre, the Side Event on Countering Anti-Migrant Narratives: The Role of Local and Regional Governments, organized by the OHCHR Migration Unit, the Side Event on Rights of Women Migrant Workers, organized by the International Society for Human Rights (ISHR)
Filipe also delivered an oral statement on the 29th of September on Item 7, for the General debate titled: Human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.
ACHRS will publish its reports on all relevant events of the Human Rights Council this week. We will continue to monitor the remaining events of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and follow closely any relevant developments to the human rights situation in the Middle East.
