Beyond Gaza: Unmasking Settler Violence in the West Bank since October 7. A Human Rights Perspective
By Yaas Farzanefar
Amid the global attention on Gaza since October 7, a surge of intensified Israeli repression has unfolded in the West Bank. This article brings to light the underreported settler violence during this period, revealing that as of December 31, 2023, over 323 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 9,000 have been displaced. According to the Palestine Chronicle, the Israeli army and settlers have surpassed their 2022 records for casualties. Analyzing incidents in four categories—Restriction of Movement, Use of Firearms, Attacks on Children, and Assaults on Agriculture and Infrastructure—this article explores settler violence as a tool of Zionist oppression. Each section concludes by identifying human rights violations within International Humanitarian Law and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, emphasizing accountability. With a pivotal focus on Restriction of Movement and Forced Displacement, this examination aims to urgently address settler violence in the West Bank, especially amid the global focus on Gaza.
