Meeting: Economic empowerment Working group – April 2026

Written by Tshepo Tlhacoane

On Tuesday, 28 April, members of the Economic Empowerment Working Group met for their monthly meeting at the offices of the Jordan River Foundation in Amman, Jordan.

The Working Group, which was established by the United Nations Refugee Agency’s (UNHCR) Inter-Agency Task Force, and is chaired by the United Nations Development Programme, the International Labour Organization, and the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development, aims to bring humanitarian and development actors together to expand sustainable development opportunities for refugees and host communities in Jordan.

Tshepo Tlhacoane was present in the meeting which discussed operational updates and contained presentations by the Danish Refugee Council on Labour Market Analysis, and by the Jordan River Foundation on Investigating the Impact of Climate Change on Household Dynamics in Jordan: A Special Focus on Women, Children, and Youth. The meeting concluded with presentations by organizations who were looking to be elected as co-chairs of the Working Group.

The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) continues to participate in the various Working Groups due to the belief that the socio-economic rights of all people are worthy of protection and promotion, regardless of their legal status, and this belief extends to protected groups such as asylum seekers and refugees. At ACHRS, we believe that the protection and promotion of all people’s human rights will lead to the highest standard of life for all and to peace and security. We will continue to do our part to work to this end.
