Call For Immediate Ceasefire in Palestine – Key Developments in December 2024

ACHRS Publishes The Palestine Monitor for December 2024

The December 2024 edition of the Palestine Monitor provides a harrowing account of the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank. The report documents the genocide led by the occupation, the widespread destruction, immense loss of life, and systematic violations of international law that continue to devastate the Palestinian population. It underscores the urgent need for accountability and immediate international intervention to address the unfolding genocide and the violence of occupation.

In Gaza, the humanitarian catastrophe has reached unprecedented levels. Over 45,000 Palestinians, including thousands of women and children, have been killed, while 1.9 million people have been forcibly displaced, seeking refuge in overcrowded shelters and abandoned buildings. The destruction of essential infrastructure has been catastrophic, with over 70 percent of vital services, such as healthcare, water, and sanitation, rendered non-functional. The healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, as the majority of hospitals and medical facilities have been destroyed, leaving severe shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies. Reports of extrajudicial killings, mass arrests, and the deliberate targeting of civilians emphasize the urgent need for justice and accountability.

The West Bank has also experienced a surge in violence and occupation-related oppression. Since October 2023, more than 790 Palestinians have been killed. Settlement expansion has intensified, with homes, schools, and agricultural facilities demolished, displacing countless families. Arbitrary detentions remain a pervasive issue, with many Palestinians held without charge or trial, in violation of international human rights standards. The ongoing violence and destruction have caused immense psychological and physical harm, with women, children, and other vulnerable groups disproportionately affected.

The report also highlights the grave consequences of the ongoing violence on the well-being of the Palestinian people. Women and children face heightened risks of gender-based violence, malnutrition, and severe psychological trauma. Pregnant women are unable to access essential maternal healthcare, and rising levels of child malnutrition point to a growing health crisis. The blockade and destruction of civilian infrastructure have exacerbated these conditions, leaving the population struggling to meet basic survival needs.

The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies calls on the international community to take immediate action to hold those responsible for these atrocities accountable. It urges governments and international organizations to ensure unrestricted humanitarian access, protect civilians, and work towards justice for the victims of violence and oppression. The report serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for collective action to halt these atrocities, rebuild lives, and advocate for the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
