Amman Center Celebrates International Human Rights Day

During the Ceremony, a New Batch of Youth Leaders Graduated

On Tuesday, December 10, the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies celebrated International Human Rights Day at Al-Hussein Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Greater Amman Municipality’s Community Committee and under the patronage of Dr. Khalil Al-Abdallat, Director of the Human Rights Unit at the Prime Ministry. The event brought together prominent figures, including the UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan Sheri Ritsema-Anderson, ambassadors, and representatives from Arab and international organizations. During the ceremony, 20 young men and women graduated from the 2024 Youth Leadership Program, which equips participants with the leadership skills necessary to drive positive societal change. The celebration also featured remarks from notable speakers, such as Engineer Qamar Nabulsi, Irish Ambassador Marianne Bolger, and Ritsema-Anderson, all emphasizing the importance of human rights and the need for global solidarity, particularly in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The event highlighted the significant contributions of the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies, which has been advancing human rights education and leadership since its establishment in 2000. Dr. Samar Mknai, a member of the center’s scientific council, reflected on the center’s journey in empowering women and youth, while Dr. Khalil Al-Abdallat commended Jordan’s continued efforts in promoting human rights. The celebration concluded with a moving speech by Yara Ghwaneimeh, a 2024 graduate, who expressed her gratitude for the program and its role in shaping future leaders. The event ended with the distribution of certificates and a recitation of the Youth Leadership Oath, reaffirming the graduates’ commitment to human rights values and their dedication to continuous growth and societal impact.
