Dr. Assaf explained that during the four-day training session, numerous topics pertaining to the right of access to information will be discussed. These topics are as follows: the international criteria on the freedom of opinion and expression, the historic development of the right of access to information, and the common principles of the laws pertaining to the right of access to information in several other countries. The topics will also include the right of the media workers to access information, the law guaranteeing the right of access to information in Jordan, and the law on the protection of the secrets and documents of the State.

A team of trainers of Jordanian media workers consisting of lecturers and specialized trainers will do the training. They are Yahya Shuqayr, Umar Shneikat, and Salem Qubaylat.

It should be recalled that Jordan is the only Arab country which has acceded to the Law on the Right of Access to Information nearly one and a half years ago.

It should also be recalled that the ACHRS has issued three annual reports on the press freedoms in the Arab Homeland, held more than 20 specialized training sessions for the media workers, and that more than 300 media workers from 18 Arab countries participated in these training sessions.
