45<\/strong> human rights networks and organizations from <\/strong>30<\/strong> countries c<\/strong>ondemn new US sanctions on ICC staff<\/strong><\/p>\n

The undersigned human rights organizations condemn the new round of sanctions imposed by the US administration on the President of the Court, Judge Tomoko Akane, and the Chief Counsel of the Office of the Prosecutor, Attorney Abdoulaye Seye.<\/p>\n

These sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) and its staff come in response to their lawful exercise of their duties in accordance with the Rome Statute. These sanctions aim to undermine the work of the ICC and to shield Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who are suspects in the Court’s investigations into crimes committed against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

These illegal US sanctions represent the US administration’s attempt to undermine the independence of international justice. These coercive measures promote impunity, threaten the rule of law, and weaken the ability of international judicial bodies to provide justice for victims of crimes against humanity and war crimes.<\/p>\n

Finally, the undersigned organizations express their solidarity with the ICC and its staff and their support for the Court’s continued independence and integrity. It also calls on States Parties to the Rome Statute to take concrete and effective measures to protect the Court and preserve its independence, free from intimidation by sanctions or threats thereof.<\/p>\n

Les organisations de d\u00e9fense des droits de l\u2019homme soussign\u00e9es condamnent la nouvelle s\u00e9rie de sanctions impos\u00e9es par l\u2019administration am\u00e9ricaine \u00e0 l\u2019encontre de la pr\u00e9sidente de la Cour, la juge Tomoko Akane, et du premier substitut du Bureau du Procureur, Ma\u00eetre Abdoulaye Seye.<\/p>\n

Ces sanctions \u00e0 l\u2019encontre de la Cour P\u00e9nale Internationale (CPI) et de son personnel font suite \u00e0 l’exercice l\u00e9gitime de leurs fonctions conform\u00e9ment au Statut de Rome.
