{"id":7723,"date":"2026-05-18T17:15:48","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T14:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/achrs.org\/english\/?p=7723"},"modified":"2026-05-18T17:15:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T14:15:48","slug":"meeting-education-sector-working-group-may-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/achrs.org\/english\/2026\/05\/18\/meeting-education-sector-working-group-may-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting: Education Sector Working Group &#8211; May 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Monday, 11 May, members of the Education Sector Working Group met both online and in-person at the offices of the Norwegian Refugee Council in Amman, Jordan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/data.unhcr.org\/en\/working-group\/45?sv=4&amp;geo=36\">Working Group<\/a>, which is chaired by the United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF), the Norwegian Refugee Council, and the Queen Rania Foundation, was established in 2008 and aims to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a forum for coordination and information-sharing for relevant organizations and institutions to support the access and equity of education for children, adolescents, and youth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan and monitor, in close coordination with the Jordanian Ministry of Education, the enhancement of the education system\u2019s capacity, by planning, implementing, and monitoring educational interventions<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To generate relevant data and research evidence, and to share it in a timely manner<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To ensure that evidence and data that is collected is used to advocate for equitable access to education for children, adolescents, and youth in Jordan; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To act as a knowledge-sharing platform to reflect members\u2019 technical experiences.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tshepo Tlhacoane represented the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) at the meeting, whose agenda comprised of general updates by the co-chairs, a presentation by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darsel.tech\">Darsel<\/a>, the newest member of the Working Group, a discussion on the results of a survey conducted by the Education Development Partner Group and the Education Sector Working Group, and a discussion on the school fees implications on unregistered refugees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regarding the latter, ACHRS is concerned about the possibility that children may be denied enrolment or be taken out of school due to their inability to pay school fees. This compounds the injury to an already vulnerable group of people due to education\u2019s close relationship with the enjoyment of other civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights.
