As an organisation, we are interested in the promotion of democratic principles and<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">the advancements of all human rights and democracy in the Arab Region. The right to life is<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">the first priority of ACHRS and forms the basis of this submission on recent developments<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">concerning the death penalty and related safeguards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">ACHRS maintains that to strengthen protections for those facing the death penalty, it is<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">imperative that states fully adhere to international safeguards, including the absolute<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">prohibition on executing individuals who were under 18 at the time of the offence and those<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">with mental or intellectual disabilities, while also addressing the profound impact of<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\">executions on families, who often suffer lasting harm and inescapable trauma.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/achrs.org\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/The-Question-of-the-Death-Penalty_-Human-Rights-and-Safeguards.pdf\">Read the full document here<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Question of the Death Penalty The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS) is a think tank based in Amman, Jordan.
