We are proud to share that Amal Shamoun<\/a>, Coordinator for the Disability and Communications and Social Media Units at the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS), participated in the Youth Rights Academy in Geneva between 7-11th July, and was selected out of 4,000 applications from around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Academy, sponsored by the UN Human Rights Office and Education Above All, brought together over 40 young human rights defenders from around the world to address issues of:<\/span><\/p>\n

– Civic space and youth participation
\n<\/span>– International law and international liability
\n<\/span>– Youth-led action and advocacy plans<\/span><\/p>\n

Amal represented Jordan with pride by sharing her work on the rights of persons with disabilities, digital participation, and increasing youth engagement in civil society activism. She met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker T\u00fcrk, the Deputy High Commissioner, Nada Al-Nashif, and several other UN team’s leaders relating to global human rights issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

This was not simply an acknowledgement of the excellence of Amal’s work, but illustrated how important it is to have the voice of Jordan’s youth in global conversations about human rights.<\/span><\/p>\n

At ACHRS, we will continue to support youth leadership, equity, and the voices of youth locally and globally.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
