On Mandela Day, we honor a leader who fought apartheid and discrimination, recognizing that freedom and human rights belong to everyone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/march-17\/south-africa-votes-to-end-apartheid\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">end<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of apartheid in South Africa showed that global solidarity can overcome systemic injustice. Mandela turned his gaze beyond South Africa: he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ca.cair.com\/updates\/nelson-mandela-his-connection-to-palestine\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">supported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Palestinian people\u2019s right to self-determination and equality. In 1997 he insisted that South Africa\u2019s freedom was bound to the Palestinians, saying that no one can be fully free while others remain oppressed.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today, we at the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies, witness history repeating itself. Many international observers <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/amnesty.no\/israel-begar-apartheid-mot-palestinere\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">describe<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00abisrael\u2019s\u00bb policies in the occupied Palestinian territories as apartheid \u2013 a system of segregation and discrimination. Like apartheid South Africa, these policies violate fundamental human rights by restricting movement, denying basic rights, and dividing communities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 14px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">On this Mandela Day, we reaffirm his vision of global justice and human rights.
