The Amman Center for Human Rights Studies with funding from the United Nations Fund for Democracy Support has implemented a dialogue meeting at the University of Isra with students of the Faculty of Law within the project of social dialogue with deputies, engaging youth as a key partner in social dialogue with MPs to reach stable legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Those who attended stressed the importance of involving young people in parliamentary debates in order to share creative ideas with the people, and called on different parties to visit the university faculties and work hard to encourage young people to play their role in the renaissance of societies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Hamdi Qubailat said that this meeting aims to involve young people, especially university students, in dialogues with deputies on the amendment of laws in particular the legislative stage, and the work of the House of Representatives, adding that university students can provide a great level of knowledge and expertise for MPs.<\/span><\/p>\n

For his part, the representative of the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies, Salem Qabailat, said that the partnership with Al-Isra University in implementing the activities was long-established. He pointed out that the Center has carried out many joint activities with the university over the past years.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the social dialogue project with Parliament, he pointed out that although Jordan has acceded to many international conventions and covenants, there is still an urgent need to involve all sectors of society, especially young people, in dialogue with MPs to reach stable legislation in line with international conventions. The youth should have an instrumental role in enriching discussions on the amendment of laws during parliamentary sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the meeting, Kabilat presented the most important stages of the social dialogue project with the Parliament, calling for continuous communication with the youth and expanding the horizons of cooperation with the Council of Representatives, explaining that the center seeks to raise awareness of the importance of a social dialogue with the deputies.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Mohammed Al-Amawi said that the time has come for a real partnership between the legislative institutions and students of university colleges to support the idea of social dialogue, and benefit from youth energies in various fields to harness their creativity and include them in the decision-making process to find a generation capable of carrying out its responsibilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the meeting, a number of participating students emphasized the importance of activating the laws that develop the spirit of initiative among young people, and the need to adopt their initiatives and support the values of active participation.<\/span><\/p>\n

A number of young participants pointed to a weakness in the conduct of dialogue and democratic practices, such as respecting the views of others, marginalizing the role of youth in decision-making, and the absence of a culture of dialogue in society. The current level of interaction with their concerns and aspirations towards the future does not meet their aspirations, thus not representing them effectively the public.<\/span><\/p>\n
