This visit was part of a study trip through Jordan where the students had the chance to get familiar with a wide variety of international and local organisations based in Jordan.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\">The director of the center, Dr. Nizam Asaf, presented an overview of the work that ACHRS carries out with the framework of the right to life, the right to think, the right to participate, the right to speak and women&#8217;s right.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\"> As part of the right to life, ACHRS contributed to the establishment of&nbsp;local and regional associations in the field of combating the death penalty through&nbsp;the Arab Coalition Against the Death Penalty and the Jordanian Coalition Against the Death Penalty.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\"> Within the right to think, ACHRS established&nbsp;the Arab Association for Academic Freedoms and organized&nbsp;six scientific conferences on academic freedoms in Jordan and Tunisia. Furthermore,&nbsp;the Amman Declaration of Academic Freedoms, created by ACHRS,&nbsp;was adopted in Arab universities and the Amman Center for Academic Freedoms.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\"> In the field of the right to participate, the Center initiated the establishment of the electoral network in the Arab world in 2006, and the Center and its network monitored 22 times parliamentary and presidential elections in Arab countries.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\"> The right to speak led to the publication of&nbsp;annual reports &nbsp;on press freedom in Arab countries, as well as a report on the right of access to information in Arab countries.&nbsp;In&nbsp;addition ACHRS&nbsp;organized 30&nbsp;media courses attended by more than 250 people from different countries in the Middle East<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\"> In the area of women&#8217;s rights, the Center focused its work on leadership and capacity building programmes&nbsp;for women. Through the Center&#8217;s&nbsp;Women Leadership Program, 170&nbsp;women graduated from seven different&nbsp;countries in the MENA region.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times; font-size: 12pt;\"> Through questions and dialogue the students gained a better understanding of the activities and work of ACHRS,&nbsp;and the human rights situation in the Middle East. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April the 2nd, a group of 10 students from various universities around the United States visited the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies.
