The training session on human rights for the employees of the Jordanian House of Representatives, organized by the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies [ACHRS] in collaboration with the General Secretariat of the House of Representatives was concluded. \u00a0The session was held under the patronage of House of Representatives Speaker, engineer Abdul Hadi El Majali<\/p>\n

During the two-day session 6-7 August, the participants in the session received theoretical lectures. Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad El Tarawneh member of the scientific council of ACHRS discussed the role of parliament and the judiciary in consolidating human rights through the upgrading of legislation in line with the international agreements to which Jordan acceded in the area of human rights in the fashion that would comply with the international agreements in the control and accountability of the executive branch of government. In the second session Mrs. Lina Qurah discussed the CEDAW.<\/p>\n

On the second day, attorney Zuha’ El Majali addressed the first session on the role of the national institutions and the civil society organizations in the consolidation of human rights in accordance with the Paris Forum. Discussion also dealt with the functions of these institutions and organizations in submitting recommendations and consultancy pertaining to human rights.<\/p>\n

In the second session, journalist Yahya Shuqayr discussed the role of the media in the consolidation of human rights with a focus on the right of the freedom of opinion, the freedom of expression, the acquisition of information, and the importance of the role of journalists in influencing national legislation to guarantee these rights.<\/p>\n

In the last session, attorney Salim Qubailat discussed the international mechanisms for the protection of human rights, which included the UPR and the treaty and no treaty obligations (Procedure 1503 of 1970 on tackling the letters involving human rights violations and violation of the public liberties, which gives the individual the right to file a complaint against his own State; and Procedure 1235 of 1967 involving the appointment of a special rapporteur to request information and inquiries on the violations and to make field visits].<\/p>\n

At the end of the training session, certificates were handed over to the 23 male and female participants. Dr. Muhammad El Tarawneh made a speech asserting that this training session was part of the context of the interaction of the Jordanian House of Representatives with the civil society organizations.<\/p>\n

It should be recalled that the ACHRS has organized ever since its establishment in 1999 a total of 295 training sessions on the various human rights issues in which more than 7600 male and female participants from 18 Arab countries participated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
