Empowering Youth to Bridge the Digital Divide

The Digital Youth Rights Unit of the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies successfully concluded an interactive workshop titled The Digital Divide: Who is Excluded from the Digital World?, which was delivered by the Unit’s Coordinator and researcher, Mohamad Abuazzoum.

The session was conducted on Saturday, 23rd May, and examined the evolution of digital rights, demonstrating how internet access has transformed from a modern luxury into an essential lifeline and a core enabler for fundamental human rights like education, healthcare, and employment.

The training shed light on the geographical, economic, and gender-based dimensions of the digital divide, while critically addressing emerging threats such as algorithmic exclusion, artificial intelligence bias, and shadow banning.

Through hands-on activities, youth participants brainstormed and drafted a comprehensive digital rights charter, emphasizing equitable access, affordable connectivity, and robust protection against digital surveillance.

The Center expresses its appreciation to all participants, reaffirming its core belief that empowering youth leaders is the driving force behind guiding technology toward justice, dignity, and digital inclusion.
